Fiction

I am working on a comedy novel (and plotting several more) and represented by Elliot Prior via. Curtis Brown Books. Please send any book-related questions through to him!

Journalism

In June 2025 I began writing a weekly online opinion column for the New Statesman, mostly about pop culture and sometimes politics. You can find them all here! Below are some personal favourite clips, there and elsewhere:

Alone time: reassessing Greta Garbo, 100 years after her screen debut - The Guardian

Hollywood voyeurism at the Marilyn Monroe exhibition - The New Statesman

The teenage Messiah is no more - The New Statesman

The cult of Camille Paglia - The Spectator

China’s greatest poet was a drunk teenage girl - The Spectator

It’s time to shake up the Emmys (and the Grammys, Oscars and Tonys) - The Spectator

For PRs

Are you a PR professional? It would be great to build a relationship if we are a match! Please do get in touch with:

  • Anything pop-related. Is your client a pop star, stylist, producer, video director, etc? Please reach out! I am particularly interested in a) East Asian pop markets, b) the evolving visual aspect of the pop industry.

  • Anything with ties to Classic Hollywood or New Hollywood (up to 1979ish) - films, books, UK-based exhibitions, etc. This is very much “my thing” and I’d be delighted to try to place it. I would especially love to hear from you if your client has recently written a biography of a Hollywood actress - these are my favourite books to read/write about.

  • Literary trends - does your (trad pub) client fit into one? I’d like to hear about it!

I do not do consumer/product journalism at present, so if you’re in this area I’m probably not the best fit for you. I can’t really place self-published books in the press, but please check out my blog (below) to see if that’s a thematic fit instead!

Blogging

I blog about classic film, pop culture, and my reading/writing life at Fairyland!, Britain’s most esoteric alt-monthly email newsletter. It’s free for now! From October you can pay £4.99 for two top-secret dispatches a month.
